In September, Google added the remote Device locking Capability to its Android Device Manager, allowing users to lock their phone if it’s stolen or lost.
The mechanism allows user to override the existing device lock scheme and set password scheme for better security.
But Recently, Curesec Research Team from Germany has discovered an interesting vulnerability (CVE-2013-6271) in Android 4.3 that allows a rogue app to remove all existing device locks activated by a user.
The bug exists on the “com.android.settings. ChooseLockGeneric class”. This class is used to allow the user to modify the type of lock mechanism the device should have. CRT team says in a blog post
Android OS has several device lock mechanisms like PIN, Password, Gesture and even faces recognition to lock and unlock a device. For modification in password settings, the device asks the user for confirmation of the previous lock.
But if some malicious application is installed on the device, it could exploit the flaw to unlock the device without the knowledge of previous password. Attackers can exploit this issue to bypass certain security restrictions to perform unauthorized actions. This may aid in further attacks.
Curesec Team has already reported the vulnerability to Google Android Security Team three times, but unfortulatly Google is not responding them about this issue.
BlackBerry plans to launch its flagship BlackBerry Z30 in Asia next week, people familiar with the matter told Pocket-lint.
The launch date for the BlackBerry Z30, a 5-inch BB10 smartphone that was long-associated with the A10 codename, makes sense given BlackBerry is holding an event France, Malaysia and India on 18 September. Our sources were able to confirm the BlackBerry Z30 will be debuted at the Malaysia event specifically - though France and India are more than likely to see the handset, as well.
A BlackBerry spokesperson declined to provide official confirmation.

An Android game has been removed from the official Google Play store after it was found to be secretly stealing users’ WhatsApp conversation databases, and offering them for sale on an internet website.
The game, Balloon Pop 2, is nothing to write home about – but behind its simple exterior lies the ability to scoop up private conversations that you may have made via WhatsApp on your Android device, and upload them to a website called WhatsAppCopy.
The attacker can then visit the WhatsAppCopy website, enter the phone number of the Android device they are targeting, and (for a fee) access the private conversations.
Google clearly takes a dim view of the app, as it has now removed it from the official Google Play Android app store.
But, of course, it’s quite possible that the app will be widely distributed via unofficial stores – and future versions could be distributed using other disguises than a balloon-popping game.

Sony’s next-gen PlayStation 4 video game console will launch in the US on November 15 and Europe on November 29. The release date was confirmed during a press event at Gamescom in Cologne today.
The system runs on an 8-core x86 processor this time around and comes fitted with a 500GB hard drive, a Blu-ray/DVD drive and 8GB of GDDR5 memory. In the box is also a new DualShock 4 controller with touchpad, as well as the new PlayStation 4 Eye – provided consumers want to pay the extra $59. The smartwatch market is set to explode. Early designs like Pebble and Sony’s first SmartWatch have set the stage for watches like Samsung’s Galaxy Gear and the SmartWatch 2. Google and Apple are both rumored to be working on smartwatch designs too. We can add Xiaomi to the mix, with rumors that they are working on a smartwatch of their own, coming from Chinese site MyDrivers.
MyDrivers is suggesting that the price for the Xiaomi Millet smartwatch could be “significantly lower” than other smartwatches available on the market. With the Galaxy Gear priced at an outrageous $299, that won’t be difficult. Xiaomi’s business model is based around offering low-cost, off contract smartphones directly through their website. A smartwatch added to their current device offerings would conceivably see the same low price point as their phones. When Hugo Barra joined the Xiaomi executive team back in August, he mentioned that they would be looking for ways to “expand their incredible portfolio and business globally.” A smartwatch would certainly expand their device portfolio.
Another interesting bit to this rumor is that the Xiaomi watch may run the company’s skinned version of Android, called MIUI. MIUI started its life as a custom ROM in China, and is now run on all of the Xiaomi’s smartphones. MIUI is currently available for quite a few devices if you have a rooted Android device and want to try the ROM out. The Samsung Galaxy Gear is running a skinned version of Android 4.2, so it shouldn’t be too difficult for the Xiaomi team to do something similar with their smartwatch.
We don’t have any solid details about this rumored smartwatch yet. It should be less expensive than other smartwatches on the market, but it may be available only in the Chinese market. Xiaomi currently only sells its smartphones in China. We don’t know an exact price point. We also don’t know any specs or if it will be compatible with any other smartphones besides those in Xiaomi’s line up. Samsung has locked down the Galaxy Gear to work only with their Galaxy devices; Xiaomi may choose to do the same.

Evaluation
The iPhone 5S shines in three different areas: its the smallest and lightest smartphone with a 64 bit processor, which should also come to the Andorid operating system in the year to come, and a fingerprint sensor. But thats as far as it got. On the other hand, when it comes to the named top Android devices, the included NFC chips, the bigger and higher resolution displays and stronger batteries kick the iPhone 5S got to the curb. Not only that, the new iPhone doesnt even support the fastest Wi-Fi standard ac. Its also missing extra special features like the Z1s watertightness and the G2s optical image stabilizer.
During the Apple announcement, the company made the biggest emphasis on the camera. When taking a look at the technical sides of this, its still inferior to what Android devices have to offer, however it was regularly proven in the past that the photos taken by iPhone cameras set the standard for smartphones. In this case, well have to check with a practical test.
The usual picture
All in all the tech specs comparison between the iPhone and its premium Android competitors shows that Apple is dwindling behind, yet is asking for a hearty price of $399 for a 64 GB model of the iPhone 5S, a very brave move. That being said, looking merely at these numbers is only part of the picture and Apple has never needed to herd their customers with flashy processors or huge displays.
